Fifteen teams from the Bulgarian Armed Forces, the Bulgarian National Security Service, the Ministry of Interior and the Bulgarian National Security Service participated in the “COMMANDO CHALLENGE 2023 – LET’S REMEMBER THE DEAD”, which was held at the Alpha Metal training ground near the city of Gabrovo.
The Bulgarian National Security Service became the winner of the fourth edition of the competition, which was held on September 29 with the participation of elite fighters from the Security sector, the Ministry of Interior and the Bulgarian Army.
The National Security Service received the Special Award of the organizers of the prestigious Commando Challenge competition – a Plaque of the 2nd Battalion of the British Light Infantry, in recognition of the high level of training of the Bulgarian National Security Service employees.
The award was presented by British Army veteran John Stanford, who served in Basra, Iraq, at the time of the attack on the Bulgarian base “India” in Karbala on December 27, 2003. This year’s edition of the Commando Challenge coincides with the 20th anniversary of the death of the five Bulgarian servicemen in the attack on the Bulgarian contingent.
“Together we bow our heads to those who have forever fulfilled their duty. We accept this gesture as recognition that with the skills we acquire and improve every day, we are worthy of fulfilling our duty. And at its core is saving human lives,” commented the Chief of the NSO, Brigadier General Emil Tonev.
